California Sea Grant is proud to support Fish to Families, a new meal distribution program meant to support both local fishermen and the food insecure during the COVID-19 crisis. Fish to Families will buy fish from San Diego’s fishermen and prepare it into healthy, delicious meals that are distributed to families in need.

Together with NOAA Fisheries, California Sea Grant Extension Specialist Theresa Talley will be creating educational materials that will be included with the meals, to inform San Diegans about our local commercial fishing community and the sustainable seafood products they provide.

Fish to Families is a partnership between the San Diego Fisherman’s Working Group and Chef Phillip Esteban with his creative group Open Gym, funded by the San Diego Foundation.

Chef Marcus Twilegar picks up albacore tuna from San Diego fisherman, David Haworth. Fisherman and project co-lead, Peter Halmay, looks on.
